Last Sunday Taylor Bennett blessed the world with “Minimum Wage”, a music video directed by Chicago-based director Cole Bennett. Taylor made his debut album back in 2015 with Broad Shoulders. The album included a few features from artists like Donnie Trumpet and Bennett’s own brother Chance the Rapper.
Since then Bennett’s been on the come up stepping out of his brother’s shadow and paving his own lane. “Minimum Wage” is proof of that. Bennett’s song shows the reality of many Americans that can’t afford life on minimum wage. Taylor also (in addition too) tackles the struggles of being an independent artist, moving up in the music industry, and following his dreams. Watch the video above or stream the single here.
Yesterday, Pouya broke the internet with his long awaited second album Five Five. As one of the hottest rappers coming out of Florida, Pouya believes the state’s recognition has been long overdue.
He is not wrong.
Pouya has been paving his own lane in Florida’s underground rap scene for a long time coming and it payed off. “I’ve been doing this since 2011, so I’ve seen everybody come and go and people stay,” he said. “I don’t think it’s necessarily late because I think every dog has his day. But it’s good to see that people are waking up. I love to see a fellow Floridian making it. It’s hard out here man” he said in a XXL interview.
FIVE FIVE is an affirmation of Pouya coming into his own, proving to the world that Florida is nothing to mess with. Pouya tackles topics about depression, staying sober, the struggles of making it. Pouya balances lyrical style and production to give us FIVE FIVE. Stream FIVE FIVE on your favorite streaming platform.
Chi-town native Saba just dropped a powerful new music video about the growing pains of life as an emerging artist. Aside from Saba’s heartfelt lyrics, the representation of light and dark energy by the dancers provides an aesthetically beautiful vision for the audience. Many of us can relate to Saba’s poetic confessions about being lonely, looking for love, and transitioning from one chapter to next in our lives. Check out “Busy” above.

East Coast rapper Brent Faiyaz’s new single “Make Luv” debuted last week. The songs heavy bass and Faiyaz’s melodic voice create a perfect blend of harmony that slaps. This R&B love song is sure to liven up your Friday night.
Freshly signed to 88rising, a creative management company, August 08’s “Funeral” debut song for his upcoming EP Father is a hit. Although the word funeral usually paints a lot of negative of imagery, however, LA based artist August 08 breathes new life to the word. “Don’t say it at my funeral” he sings, asking his audience to keep it real with one another and spread positivity.
Atlanta rappers Gunna and Young Thug gifted us with another banger “King Kong.” The song is a glimpse at Gunna’s new album Drip Season 3. The track starts with Thugga’s melodic vocals followed by some hard bars from Gunna. This fire track reminds us just why Atlanta’s such a hotspot for hip-hop and trap music right now.
Bay Area raised artist RAMIREZ dropped a fire new single “100 Bars and Gunnin”. The song pays homage to the gangster/thug persona but in a new and alternative way. Ramirez’s fast past rhythm and heavy bass reminds us why the bay area is home to some of the best rappers alive.
South Florida rapper OTTO dropped a hot new single “Down In The Hole”. This self-produced track is driven by emotional and heartfelt rap-like bars.
If you’re looking for a more melodic and romantic song, we’ve got the perfect gem for you. “The Ways” by Khalid featuring Swae Lee is the slap to play for that special someone this Valentine’s Day. Another win for the Black Panther soundtrack.
Fresh off of Ravyn Lenae’s latest EP release Crush, “The Night Song” is lucious. Lenae’s glossy vocals remind us why she’s here to stay!

For the more alternative-underground rap lovers Los Angeles rapper Paris’ latest release “Reasons” is straight fire! The song is a perfect example of the new wave we’ve been seeing in the rap game. More rappers are bringing punk & emo vibes to the scene with more melodic vocals and alternative lyrics. As interesting as the sound is it will be even more interesting to see where these opening doors will lead.

This is an advanced listening of their second single of the year, “last week” written by wallah umoja & produced by shruggs dropping on Nov.15th, 2017
Wallah channels his aggression in a relentless flurry of bars that develop a portrait of a man’s psyche when amputating life’s dead weight. Shruggs provides the seasick backdrop to this mindset with rising and falling instrumentation. Together they manage to take you on a roller-coaster, dropping in & out of anxiety and a zen level of assurance.

Long time no see from supergroup N.E.R.D. but after 7 years, they’re back with their new single ‘Lemon’. Last we heard from the trio, they had just dropped their album Nothing in 2010. The single features a sample of Retch’s iconic video while Rihanna blesses the track with a very rare rap verse. In the new video, the amazing dancer Mette Towley also tears up the floor!
