Compton’s own Kendrick Lamar is one of the most talked about musicians of the past fifteen years. His artistry is unmatched; between his uncanny ability to change his voice to embody different perspectives and characters to his impeccably vivid lyricism, Kendrick is a force to be reckoned with. His music has tremendous weight and layers upon layers of depth. Kendrick uses his music to analyze himself and his experience to contextualize larger systemic and cultural issues. I’ve always appreciated Kendrick’s vulnerability and transparency when it comes to sharing things about himself and his family that some artists might have reservations about sharing. It was very difficult to pick just a handful of songs from Kendrick’s multi-decade spanning discography so, this is just part one! Enjoy!
