On her debut album, Couldn’t Wait to Tell You… Liv.e, tells layered stories of love-filled relationships, and not just romantic ones. The Dallas, Texas native tenderly shares the complexities of her relationships. Though the tracklist is lengthy, the songs generally don’t pass the three-minute mark. Throughout the 20 tracks, Liv.e shares a consistent wave of emotion, overflowing with doubt, love, self-reflection, lust, and any other emotion that might come with loving someone.
While the sounds on Couldn’t Wait to Tell You… feel natural, most of the production feels like a collage, Dauod, and Mejiwahn – the album’s producers, create space for some experimentation by adding psychedelic tones throughout the project.
“About Love At 21” is a slow breathing, looping ode to young love. Liv.e laments a long lost relationship on the track. She sings about the various bumps in the road of a relationship with a repeating chorus, “Loving you…Loving you, yea…Loving you/it’s as mental as I’ll ever be.” As the soul chop loops in the background of the instrumental, Liv.e sings in harmony with it expanding the vignette of young love and the ups and downs of relationships.
The eighth track, “To Unplug” features a pulsating groove that Liv.e’s vocals swim over and under through a wobbly mix. The song’s arhythmic, low tempo pattern is reminiscent of Liv.e’s EP, ::hoopdreams::, a blend of buttery chords and subtle lo-fi drum progressions. The song oozes inspiring stylistic choices and a silky aesthetic that’s pure ear candy.
On the track “I Been Living,” there is a very harmonious sub-rhythm that pulsates throughout the track, glitching underneath Liv.e’s reverb-soaked vocals. The song alludes to her newfound freedom from the expected responsibilities of relationships and the emotional exhaustion of living in the heat of the moment and taking time for herself.
