With my sound pack I wanted to create a sound with an emphasis on chords. Although the name of my sound pack is “Emotional Trap Chords,” I wanted to make loops that can also be used in Bay Area and Southern Rap Music. Below I’ve listed a couple of songs for example. This playlist consists of artists like Lil Tjay, J.I. and Ray Rizzle. There are a lot of different songs that rely on chords as the main melody, and in these songs you’ll be able to hear how versatile chords can be. By using my sound pack, I hope producers will be able to create many different kinds of beats.
Lil Bean- Bag Talk
I chose this record because it was locally produced by Taliband. In this record, the main melody that carries the beat is the piano. This record uses chords but does not really have a trap feel to it.
Lil Tjay- 20/20
The NY drill scene has risen to its heights, thanks to the likes of artists like Lil Tjay and Pop smoke. However, this is a softer record form Lil Tjay, one of the songs that really emphasize “emotional trap chords.”
J.I. Prince of New York – Love Scars
J.I. voice is an instrument itself. By using chords he is easily able to rap/sing with emotion and have his audience feel his pain through his music.
HOTBOII- Don’t Need Time
This record really emphasizes the use of powerful chords. With this beat, the producer only needed about 2 layers of instruments to finish the beat. This song really shows how powerful chords can be.
Ray Rizzle – Get You Gone
This record is another example of how chords can be used in different ways. This record isn’t technically trap but uses a catchy 808 and powerful chords.
Polo G – 21
Polo G is another excellent example, his records consist of heavy pianos and emotion. In this record the only 1-2 layers of chords are used.
