Here we are: Election Day 2020. I’m sure we are all going through a range of emotions as we brace for the results of one of the most historic elections of our lifetime. As a DJ, I believe that in times of distress, music always saves the day. I have curated a bunch of songs that will get you ready to go out to the polls and vote with purpose and passion. Through these critical times, I feel that it is very important for everyone to go out and participate in this year’s election. It is absolutely critical that the youth participate in these polls because we are the future and change can only start with us. If we want to see a brighter future for us and future generations let’s start now. I hope listening to this playlist will inspire young individuals to go out and vote!
Eminem – “Not Afraid”
If anyone is feeling anxious about the election or this year in general, I feel like this record will give you the courage to go and do something good.
Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys – “Empire State of Mind”
This power record from Jay-Z and Alicia Keys should definitely get you in the mood to hit the polls and hope for a better future!
Childish Gambino – “This Is America”
This record was one of the highlights of 2019 for many reasons. The message of this song paired with the video is very powerful and addresses what is still happening in our country.
Kendrick Lamar – “Alright”
Kendrick has been one of the most influential artists of this generation. He always makes sure to include powerful messages in his music. Although the Compton eapper always fights for equal rights in the streets and in his music, this record empowers me the most.
Lil Baby – “The Bigger Picture”
It’s always a good thing when your favorite artist pushes to make change. In this record, Lil Baby addresses current world situations and protests against racial inequality.
DaBaby – “ROCKSTAR ft. Roddy Ricch (BLM Remix)”
“Rockstar” was one of the biggest songs of the year. So it was a big deal when DaBaby and Roddy Rich released a remix of the record with a special message about protesting against racial inequality.
N.W.A. – “Fuck Tha Police”
A classic record, “Fuck Tha Police” is one of the first songs that caught national attention for discussing standing up against racists cops. If anyone is unhappy with our police departments this song should get you hyped to hit the polls.
YG & Nipsey Hussle – “FDT (Fuck Donald Trump)”
This record should be played at every poll on voting day. If anyone wants Trump out of office they should slap this while turning in their ballots.
Kanye West – “Stronger”
As you can tell by the title, this record just gets me pumped to go hit the polls.
Lil Bean – “Hurtin'”
I was glad to see one of my favorite artists from the Bay address the injustices in our country. Check out this record by SF’s own Lil Bean to get some inspiration about what we need to change with this election.
Polo G – “Epidemic”
As the title reminds us – we are going through unprecedented times. This song helps me process what is going on in the world.
Meek Mill – “Letter to Nipsey (feat. Roddy Ricch)”
2020 has been one of the worst years, I know many of you have lost loved ones, either from COVID -19 or other circumstances. This song helps me remember all the people I’ve lost and who I’m voting for who can’t vote themselves.
Capolow – “MUD”
This song gets me excited, that’s it. Just get excited to be voting.
Mozzy, Blxst – “Streets Ain’t Safe”
Blxst is undefeated, this record is just so hard I had to throw it in here for the energy.
All Black – “Pod 22”
This record is an Oakland Anthem, if you’re from Oakland use this record to empower you to hit the polls.
Tee Grizzley – “From The D To The A ft. Lil Yachty”
Listening to Tee Grizzley makes me want to fight someone, use that same energy against Trump and go vote!
Roddy Ricch – “Die Young”
Like Roddy said, “I don’t want to die young.” Let’s work together to make this world a better place.
POP SMOKE – “DIOR”
R.I.P Pop Smoke, they took you too soon. Let’s vote since he can’t.
Drake – “Laugh Now Cry Later ft. Lil Durk”
This record helps me remember that life is still such a wonderful thing. Don’t let all this negativity slow you down.
Travis Scott – “Goosebumps ft. Kendrick Lamar”
Let this record’s energy get you pumped up to stand in line and vote as is your right!
