Smartbomb Is Taking Us On A VHS Trip

Themed Playlists Posted by Yared Gebru 24-07-20

Retrofuturist art collective SMARTBOMB is back with another night of extraterrestrial energy and warm nostalgic fuzz with the second installment of VIDEO HOME SYSTEM, streaming live on their site and ADP.FM. With visuals directed by FlatSpot, VIDEO HOME SYSTEM is a collection of short films, curated DJ sets, and more. Tune in this Saturday 7/25 at 8pm PST (10pm CST/11pm EST) for the full experience and in the meantime, get acquainted with the performers you’ll hear that night.

Melanie Charles

Brooklyn-born artist of Haitian descent is crafting a unique experimental blend of dreamy jazz and soul. She’s performed on SNL with SZA and collaborated with Gorillaz, but Charles is a star in her own right. She was recently featured on The Roots’ Solo Sessions performing “No Bridge,” an absolutely ethereal display of vocals. Check out her full-length release “The Girl with the Green Shoes” on Spotify.

Linafornia

Linafornia isn’t new to the Smartbomb world, the Leimert Park-based artist expertly meshes up vintage soul, R&B, house, and more. Her Low-End Theory Mix is amazing, smooth, and fuzzy. Check out this set on Kinda Neat and catch up on her Soundcloud tracks.

Spote Breeze
Oakland rapper Spote Breeze is a wordsmith in his own right. On the freshly remixed “Kaleidoscope,” produced by Dauod, the “the type to go to OPD and tell the sheriff, ‘you weak.’” If you’re into in-your -ace bars paired over experimental production, check out Spote Breeze’s debut album Not Aloud, plus the Dauod remix of “Kaleidoscope” on Bandcamp.
