Hey everyone! Cily here again with some more inspirational tracks for your TypeBeat challenge.
I chose these tracks to help inspire and almost guide you through your musical process for this week’s challenge because each of these songs showcases certain techniques that can really bring your track to life.
“Resonance” by HOME
I absolutely love this track for its nostalgic 80s drum samples and its use of atmospheric synths. The way they use their filters to open and close the synths pull you in and out of this virtual reality.
“Storm” by SHSTR & Moore Kismet
This genre-bending track was by far one of my most listened to tracks of 2018. SHSTR and Moore Kismet bring trap beats and electronic chords together to make this Storm (pun intended) look more like a symphony of sound.
“Anything” by Valentino Khan & Alison Wonderland
This deep house banger by Valentino Khan is perfect for this inspo playlist because it shows how effective a 4 on the floor kick pattern can be when paired with a nice punchy bass that bounces off the kick. Alison’s vocals also keep the track nice and open leaving space for you to feel that groove and just vibe.
“Coming Over” by Dillon Francis and Kygo
I love this tropical house inspired track because of how thick the chords feel when the drop hits. This track is proof that sometimes less is more. A little extra attack on some sawtooth waves in any synth goes a long way. *Pro tip* : learn about your ADSR and how to use those parameters to your advantage!
“Flight” by Tristam & Braken
Tristam and Braken do what they do best in this synth-based melodic dubstep track. Bright synth leads playing thick chords paired with an almost vocal-like melody make the drop all that more intense when they hit you with their heavy bass drop. *Sidenote* : the juxtaposition of light and dark make this track come to life!
“Flatline” by Blanke ft. Calivania
In this beautifully sentimental track, Blanke uses thick sawtooth chords to create a powerful drop to compliment Calivania’s impactful lyrics. The chords in this track remind me a lot of some power chords you might hear in a rock song because they’re big, bright, and full. Your chords don’t always have to be bright or big and heavy but they should almost always feel full in someway.
“Dreamer” by Throttle
These next two are by my man Throttle, I couldn’t pick one to use because they both inspired me for this sample pack. In “Dreamer” we are taken through a digital dreamscape. Again these chords are just so lush and full and they just make me happy honestly.
“Bloom” by Throttle
In “Bloom” we get more warm sawtooth chords paired with a nostalgic 8 bit arp that teleports us to a lush virtual reality of paradise.
“Phantom pt. 2” by Justice
These iconic French DJs show us how nice some sawtooth waves sound when heavily distorted and used as a bass instrument. “Justice” brings a dark twist to the French dance music scene with this funk-inspired track.
“Grounded” by KOAN Sound ft. Javeon
Koan Sound changes the way we think of rhythm and groove when it comes to a bassline with their incredible sound design. Their fusion of heavily distorted basses and heavy-hitting trap drums come together like peanut butter and chocolate.
