Emotional Trap Chords - by DJ Edel
Participating in the Type Beat Challenge was a new experience for me. It encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and collaborate with peers that I probably wouldn’t have before. As far as producing Emotional Trap Chords, it forced me to look at producing in a different way. Like taking a step back and letting someone else take the lead. My favorite flip from my pack was by Money Maka – she took one of the saddest samples in my pack and totally remixed it into a club hit. The reason I liked it was because I was so surprised. My sound pack was made with a single idea in mind, however, Money completely flipped it around and blew my mind. This is why collaborating with peers is so vital in the industry!
Boomin' Hyphy Sounds - by Money Maka
Me being from Oakland and growing up during the hyphy movement, I just wanted to create a sound pack that was unique to me and where I’m from, as well as depict feelings that I felt during that prominent time in the Bay. These feelings and experiences have shaped me and contributed to who “Money Maka” is. I wanted to make sure that I had a very diverse pack which is why I included so many different things such as drums, melodies, and baselines. It didn’t matter whether you were a veteran producer or a new producer; you had every piece that you needed to create a full sounding composition. I picked this flip produced by the one and only Anders because it really reminded me of old school Rick Rock beats for E-40 and it put me back in that headspace and era which made me feel really nostalgic and of course…hyphy! If you like to get wild and bounce to the beat, Boomin’ Hyphy Sounds is definitely your bag. Make sure to download the pack and create your own hyphy experience.
Bedroom Lo-Fi Chords - by Anders
Ultimately I ended up super happy with Bedroom LoFi chords. It felt like a good foundation for me to build off of. The creation of this sound pack helped me understand the variety that is possible when creating a sample pack. I wanted to make something that producers could use to create a track in any genre they chose. Ultimately my pack felt like a success in this way! All the flips I received were extremely unique in their own ways and spanned several different genres. I ultimately chose this flip, by Summi purely because of its production quality. This ended up being one of the most polished beats I had received. Artist and Producer Summi even gave me a little shout out!
Hyper Pop Loops - by Chaz
My favorite submission for Hyper Pop Loops was Mello’s flip. When I was creating the sound pack, I really wanted to branch out of my comfort zone and make something I’ve never made before. I experimented with many new sounds while working on this pack, as well as testing out new plugins and effects. One fun fact is that I actually memorized all of the scales as a result of working on this pack, mainly because it was very loop-focused, and I had to always remember what key I was working in for each loop. Mello’s flip stood out to me the most because he also worked outside of his comfort zone for his loop, and used sounds he had never used before. His incorporation of my loop from the pack mixed with his own rhythmic approach to it created something truly beautiful. Thanks, Mello!
Atmospheric Pads Pack - by Cily
Everyone’s submissions were awesome and picking a winner was difficult but my favorite Atmospheric Pads flip submission was Flipflops by Anders. His use of the atmospheric sample combined with the organic elements of the ukelele and electronic synthesizers painted a surreal tropical vibe really nicely. His beat also had really nice transitions from the intro, to the build, into the drop and outro were really smooth and gave the song a great flow and structure. Overall these are the elements that make a good track shine through, and what I was looking for in a winner.
Reggaeton Rhythm Sounds - Mello
Cily’s entry for the Reggaeton Rhythms live stream was exceptional. The conversation between the drums, pianos, and synths created an extremely dynamic performance when layered with one of the vocal loops from my pack. Hearing the vocal chops dance across the beat was just beautiful along with the tons of automation leaving there not to be a single dull moment in the song. Although this pack was titled “Reggaeton Rhythms” his entry goes to show that there is no limit to how you can use the sounds of my pack.
Dreamy RnB Chords - David
Creating Dreamy RNB Chords was such a fun way for me to just be creative and make music. It’s been awesome to collaborate with all the amazing producers who flipped my samples and made their own sound packs. I had so many great submissions it was hard to pick my favorite but I thought Money Maka made the most creative and cleanest flip I got. I can definitely hear an artist going crazy on it. Shoutout to her for such a good beat.
